About the Pilot
ZuidtrAnt is an energy cooperative that works towards the energy transition by working with an array of technologies: solar roofs, projects in schools, renovation coaching, battery storage, energy positive circular HUBs. Through its current Burenwerf project, ZuidtrAnt aims to renovate several residential buildings in close collaboration with the municipalities. Under this project, it has already renovated 90 homes and reached 4600 residential buildings with key information. They plan to continue expanding in this direction. Through the support service of CLR, they would like to explore more in detail their business model, lowering connection costs so that more citizens can access the service. Furthermore, they are keen to learn about IT tools and methodologies for monitoring the impact of their renovations. The total foreseen investment for the extensions of the heat network is of 3,998,849€, a cost which, following their current model, should be borne in combination by residents and municipalities.
Our support
The ZuidtrAnt pilot made tangible progress in both implementation and communication. Activation activities for the local heating network in Mortsel, carried out with the municipality and technical partner Kelvin Solutions, led to 12 households registering for technical feasibility visits, with a second engagement round planned on the basis of the resulting analysis. A comprehensive communication strategy was prepared, aligned with the launch of ZuidtrAnt’s updated website and including templates for social media, email signatures, a brand book and business cards. Supporting materials for the heating network expansion – a brochure and flyer – were also developed. At the institutional level, the Municipality of Mortsel provided a grant to support heating network connections, improving affordability for citizens.

We are excited to announce the selection of six Pilots for Phase II of the Citizen-led renovation (CLR) initiative. One of the selected pilots is ZuidtrAnt cv-so, an innovative energy cooperative dedicated to advancing the energy transition through a diverse range of technologies.
As part of ongoing efforts to support citizen-led renovation initiatives, the Support Service for Citizen-Led Renovation recently organised a dedicated workshop with the Belgian pilot project, ZuidtrAnt.
The municipality of Lint, located on the southern edge of Antwerp, hosted the successful kick-off meeting for the "Lint Renoveert" project on Thursday, 14 November 2024. The event aimed to inform and engage local citizens about energy renovations for their homes.
