The Citizen-led renovation Pilot Castello Green House, Ferrara's first Citizen Energy Community (CER) cooperative, has participated in the "Fossil-Free Cities" event in Brussels. This event, dedicated to strategies for reducing fossil fuel dependency in buildings and heating and cooling systems, provided a platform for the Castello Green House to showcase its innovative approach to energy transition. It highlighted the role of public-private partnerships and PAESC (Action Plans for Sustainable Energy and Climate) in the energy transition.
During the event, representatives from the cooperative engaged with European institutions, the European Investment Bank, and the DG Energy EU to explore concrete and replicable solutions for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
Key Highlights:
- Innovative Energy Solutions: Castello Green House is a pioneering initiative born from the cooperative efforts of Castello residents. The project aims to improve the energy quality of over 500 real estate units through a combination of efficiency interventions and the use of renewable sources.
- Comprehensive Support: With the support of Innovacoop and Legacoop Abitanti, the Castello Cooperative has received technical, financial, and legal assistance to facilitate the energy transition. This support has been crucial in expanding the community and involving new producers and consumers of shared energy.
- Collaborative Approach: The event underscored the importance of public-private partnerships and Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (PAESC) in driving the energy transition. The Castello Green House exemplifies how cooperatives can lead this change, creating more resilient and sustainable communities.
The participation of Castello Green House in the Brussels event highlights the potential of cooperative models in achieving energy independence and sustainability. The project serves as a beacon for other communities looking to embark on similar energy transition journeys.
