Citizen-Led Sustainability: Integrating Social Science into Energy Community and Building Initiatives

This event will delve into the vital role of social science in fostering sustainable energy communities and buildings, showcasing innovative approaches and tools developed through Horizon H2020 and Horizon Europe projects. The support service for Citizen-led renovation will share its perspectives on citizen-led renovation in this context.

As we strive towards a sustainable future, the involvement of communities and citizens is crucial in driving the energy transition. This webinar will feature experts who will share practical methodologies and real-world case studies that demonstrate how community engagement and social science can be effectively integrated into energy projects. Attendees will gain insights into:

  • The Common Impact Model (CIM): A comprehensive toolbox for building sustainable energy communities by facilitating community acceptance of green energy programs. Learn how CIM has been successfully applied in energy communities, Positive Energy Districts (PEDs), and the Renovation Wave, with use case examples from ELAND, FORTESIE, and PEDVOLUTION projects.
  • Human-Centric Stakeholder Engagement: Discover humane approaches to involving citizens in the energy transition. With technical advancements like demand response, it is essential to understand and support citizens' expectations and roles in forming Citizen Energy Communities (CECs).
  • Sustainable Energy Positive and Zero Carbon Communities: Gain insights into how collaboration with stakeholders and citizens can lead to the development of sustainable energy-positive districts. Case studies from key project areas will illustrate successful community engagement and sustainable development strategies.
  • Citizen-Led Renovation Initiatives: Explore the challenges and opportunities for citizen involvement in sustainable renovation projects. Learn about innovative guidance and demos that have been developed to support citizen-led renovation efforts, empowering communities to take charge of their energy transitions.

The session will conclude with a panel discussion, during which experts will debate the impact of social science on energy communities and citizen-led initiatives, providing valuable perspectives on how to effectively engage and empower communities in the shift towards sustainable energy.

This webinar is an excellent opportunity for professionals, policymakers, community leaders, researchers and others interested in sustainable energy to understand the transformative potential of integrating social science into energy community initiatives. Join us to learn from pioneering projects and discover how to put citizens at the heart of the energy transition.
