oPEN Living Lab Pamplona completes the BIPV roof installation

Solar Panels on building's roof

The oPEN Lab project's oPEN Living Lab Pamplona is proud to announce a significant milestone: the completion of the BIPV roof installation. This newly installed photovoltaic roof generates 60 kWp of renewable energy by utilising all available roof space, even in suboptimal orientations. This achievement required a meticulous design process, optimising string configuration and inverter selection. The PV installation is expected to produce approximately 72 MWh of clean energy annually.

In the coming weeks, partners from the CENER Solar Department will measure voltage-current response curves to individually characterise each string, enabling the development of accurate digital twins for the entire photovoltaic roof array.

Regarding the heat harvesting system, the San Pedro BIPV installation will monitor temperature and airflow beneath the solar panels. Various sensors have been installed in the ventilated cavity, along with a meteorological station equipped with a calibrated hemispherical pyranometer. The collected data will be used to fine-tune simulation models and further optimise the design of the ventilated system to be installed in the IWER complex.

Looking ahead, our team is eager to collaborate with the main contractor and installers to commission all building technical systems. This includes those related to energy generation, storage, and management, as well as home automation interfaces that will allow residents to easily access and interact with the energy system.
